Is this just me?

My reactions generally turn out to be rants because why not?

I have a really big problem with people using the wrong terms for certain things, especially if it is something that interests me and I am very passionate about, so passionate that I get really hostile towards people.

My one true problem is when people use the term manga for a non-Japanese graphic novels, I have seen this used several times especially on websites for publishing houses, online book shopping and book discussion websites. And it annoys me to the point where I just want to slap them in the face with an actual book, a really heavy hardback book! I know that there are some graphic novels that try and take on the manga style. but manga is a comic created in Japan, by a Japanese artist in the Japanese language adapted from a style developed in Japan in the late 19th century.

It would be like saying that a Marvel Comic book is the same as the Twilight graphic novel or the Walking dead comic book, the fans know the difference why can't other people do the same with Manga?
Vice-versa manga sometimes getting classed as Graphic Novels and Comic Books it is not the same!

It is the same with Anime, for example there is a 3D children show on Netflix called RWBY which my 10 year old younger sister has been watching, she knows all about Anime and Manga, she even did a PowerPoint presentation at school about it, but she is under the impression like so many others that it is Anime. It is NOT Anime, Anime is Japanese Animation it follows the same criteria as Manga, RWBY was created by an American Company, it is influenced by western views therefore it is not Anime, it doesn't matter if they adapt the Anime characteristics it will probably never be classed as Anime by Anime fans, it is a cartoon made for American children in America

The same with Avatar and Legend of Korra, many people do consider it to be Anime because of it's heavily influenced style but yet again it is not Anime because of who the target audience is and where it was produced, many fans still debate whether on not it can be considered so but the majority vote would be that no it is not Anime.

Learn the Difference you fool!

For those who wish to further their knowledge about what would generally be accepted as an actual anime you can read up about it here http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=141101
